Meet the Team

I’ve loved animals for as long as I can remember. I drove my parents crazy by constantly bringing home random animals that needed care. That passion led me to pursue my training at the Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology, where I became a Licensed Veterinary Technician. Along the way, I gained hands-on experience working in an emergency and critical care hospital in Denver and spent countless hours volunteering with local shelters and rescues. All of these experiences brought me to where I am today—working with the wonderful team at Paws N’ Claws.

At home, life is just as full. My husband and I keep busy with our two kids and our two fur babies, who always manage to being a little extra joy (and chaos!) into our days.

With a lifetime of experience caring for and working with animals, I can say without hesitation that it's been a privilege. From growing up with cats, dogs, and cows, to caring for lions, tigers, and bears, (yes literally) my passion for animals has never wavered.

While working toward an animal science degree at UNL, I worked at "Folsom Children's Zoo". I was honored to care for "Ben" the Kodiak Bear from The Grizzly Adams series. While I lived in Texas, I volunteered at "Pride Rock" and "In-Sync" exotic wildlife rescues. One of the greatest joys of my career has been bottle-feeding and caring for lions and tigers at all stages of life, but I also adore every cat and dog!!!

From Nebraska to Texas, I've worked at various vet clinics, a zoo, and wildlife rescues. I am grateful I am able to continue pursuing my passion of educating people on some of the best ways to make their pets happy healthy members of their families .and make a difference in the lives of animals every day.

Having parents that own a pet store and growing up on an acreage with farm animals has instilled in me a love for animals.  That love and passion for animals has led me here. I work here as a vet assistant.  I am attending vet tech school to learn more on how I can help animals.  I own 2 dogs, a cat, a bird, and several reptiles and amphibians.

Being obsessed with Animal Planet as a kid, I grew up loving all animals and trying to catch any that I could find.  I started working as a vet assistant in 2014 and I knew this was the job for me.  I’m currently a student at Penn Foster working towards becoming a Licensed Veterinary Technician.  I enjoy being outside with my 3 dogs, playing video games, and going out for tacos and margs.

While growing up, I loved getting to spend time on my grandparents farm and feed their animals. When considering options for a career change from teaching, I drew on my experience with my own pets as well as the opportunities that I have had with animals big and small when pet sitting through Rover.  I have two cats and a dog of my own; thankfully my dog likes watching Husker volleyball as much as I do. My favorite part of being at Paws N’ Claws is getting to greet and give attention to every animal that walks through the doors.

  • Kristin Thompson - Assistant

I can’t remember a time in my life that I didn’t have a pet. I grew up with all sorts of animals. Cats, dogs, hamsters, bettas, and even a duck that lived in our bathtub for a short time! My love of animals comes from my grandpa. He was a mail man and was known for bringing stray cats/kittens home. He also carried milk bones around for the dogs on his mail route. I grew up around a lot of different farm animals as my great aunt lived on a farm in Iowa. I have gone back and forth between a receptionist and a veterinary assistant role in this field. Right now I’m focusing my time as an assistant and am considering vet tech school in the future.

  • Mayhem - Resident Lab Cat

I live up to my name in every way possible; I love to explore the areas under the lab cabinets whenever I get a chance. My favorite things are my orange ball, the laser pointer and treats.
